The women of Rockdale Lutheran Church
are a part of the Women of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America. As such, they participate in WELCA events at the
conference, synod, and national levels. But, just as RLC is a congregation of
very special traditions, the Women of RLC also have cherished traditions.
The list of benevolent donations from our women is impressive indeed, also including: Lutheran World Relief (both money and goods for others), Dane County Jail Ministry, Adopt-a-Child, Lutheran Social Services, Campus Ministry, Global Health, and ELCA Seminary Assistance. But the generosity of our women is also close to home, with regular gifts to the RLC youth in the form of scholarships for special events. The RLC women live out the call to “Go in peace and serve the Lord” by taking on several responsibilities for the church, including altar guild, readers for worship, communion assistants, and luncheon preparations for both funerals and weddings. Also, there are two Bible studies for women. One is Tuesday morning, and one Wednesday evening, each meeting once a month. It is well known in the ELCA that women are the foundation of the church. Nowhere is this more true than at Rockdale Lutheran.
